This artical is about Simon Bolivar. Bolivar led the resistance against the Spanish empire. He fought to free Latin America, and because of that now has many places named after him. Without Boliviar, things could have happen differently throughout history to where the modern day border line and country establishments would not be the same. Without the help of Biliviar to free Latin America, the world could be a very different place.

I definitely agree with the video. Learning new languages keeps your brain learning which increases brain function. By using your brain more, you are delaying mental illnesses like dementia. Also, there are some words that cannot be translated because it is a concept unique to that language. By knowing more than one language, you are widening your horizons in terms of what you can think. Also, by knowing more than one language, you are able to experience more in life because you have the ability to communicate better with others.

Kacis First Blog Entry

This semester I hope to further my knowledge and understanding of the Spanish language. I have blogged before in Spanish one, and i think it could be a useful tool to connect with others and learn.

Panama

if i could visit any spanish speaking country, i would visit Panama. I would love to be able to see the sun rise on one side of the ocean and set on the other in the same day. It would be a great story to tell and definately an experience unique to this country. while in Panama, i would also visit Casco Viejo, a historic section of Panama origionally built in the 1600's. Containing the original Spanish acitecture, this would be a great place to visit that would remind you of a simpler time. While in Panama, i would try to explore both the more advanced Panama of today and the more quaint places where technology has not yet made its mark.

Blog 4- Shakira

Shakira is a singer from Colombia. She sings songs in spanish and english and has since the early 1990's. This video is her song, Waka Waka, the official song of the 2010 World Cup. In the video, there are images of plays from the world cup and players. There are also clips of Shakira dancing, doing the waka waka, with African men and women. This song starts out talking about a battle and fighting. The song then shifts into talking about this being your moment, like a "pump up" song of sorts. This article is about five people who were killed in Bogota, the capitol of Colombia. Two women, two men, and a five year old girl were killed in Bogota, shot with their throats slit. This is thought to be the work of the FARC, a guerrilla army, or Los Rastrojos, a drug gang made up of former militiamen. The FARC is recognized by the U.S. as a terrorist organization. This incident shows the problem this area is having with violence at the time.

P.S, i just bought Wavin' Flag by K'naan and Waka Waka by Shakira in spanish for my ipod and i lovee these spanish songs :)

Kaci's First Blog Entry

This semester i hope to learn how to make basic conversation in Spanish. I also hope to understand Spanish when i hear it.  I have never had my own blog before, though i have blogged as assignments for other classes. I think it will be a good experience and use of technology to learn and connect with other students.
